Sushi and Squid Salad

One of the few exciting things I got to do over break was try sushi. I have never tried it before. I've always wanted to say that I will try anything and while sushi may not seem that exotic... it is to me. The oddest thing I have ever eaten would be frog legs. I ate them in France about 7 years ago when I had to choose between trying frog legs or mussels. The legs were super tiny and you could still see the tiny toes. I remember not liking the taste.. I thought they were greasy with little flavor.

So to embark on a new journey I decided to try something else new. Paige, my roommate, took me to a sushi restaurant in Mason called Kyoto. We picked out three different kinds of sushi. One cooked, the other two uncooked. Two had crab and avocado and the other had yellow fin and white tail tuna. My favorite was the roll with the tuna, the fusion roll. I cannot say that I will eat much sushi in the future. The taste was not horrible and I enjoyed the avocado and meat, but I did not like the seaweed. I could not take the texture of the seaweed.

I also tried squid for the first time. We got a complimentary squid salad. The texture of that was also not pleasing to me. I couldn't look at the squishy legs and not think of what it looked like while I was chewing it.

Regardless, another one is crossed off the list. Hopefully this will probe me to try even more new foods.

Numero Uno

I ran outside today since it was so nice. This week I'm going to begin training for number one on my list (run a half marathon). A half marathon is 13.1 miles, so this should be a pretty big challenge. I'm already a week behind on my training schedule so hopefully I can catch up. The half-pig marathon is on May 1st. Hopefully I get new running shoes by then.

I included my training schedule.

The First One!!

Today was one of the first beautiful, sunny days in Athens since the dreadful winter quarter started. (Not to say there weren't beautiful, snowy days where the town was covered in white) I am just sick of the cold. I woke up around 1 today having to pull myself out of bed to go to my 3pm Spanish class (it's a blast... not). I stepped outside and the instant the sun hit my face and skin I could feel all the little joy receptors in my body springing to life. After sitting in Gordy Hall for a treacherous hour, I skipped back home in gleeful anticipation of me and my roommates picnic (#47) to celebrate the sun.

My excitement could not be controlled. We gathered up our food and beverage choices and trekked through deep south to the river. I ate my turkey sandwich, buffalo ranch doritos and clementine while wearing my red sunglasses. However, the excitement was short lived because after we were done we realized how cold we were and headed back to our disgusting, dirty, smelly dorm room.

Yes, so it is still around 40 degrees outside and spring has not officially arrived. But I crossed 47 off my list with mounds of anticipation and a glint of hope for spring to soon arrive. It was a great way to celebrate the sun coming back alive.

Marshall Mathers

I'm starting to work on #21... except I'm having a tough time deciding which song to choose. I think I'm going to go with my original pick Lose Yourself.
